Ischia

2 days on Ischia

1st day on the island by bicycle with a local guide
From the Port to Forio through Casamicciola and Lacco Ameno with its famous rock formation, locally known as “the mushroom”.
Then on to the Mortella Garden which was created by the English composer William Walton and his Argentinian wife, Susana.
Walton composed there for 35 years.
His wife believed there was a connection between music and gardening so she developed the idea of a garden with musical activity.
This Italian paradise contains fountains, lotus pools, wild roses, tropical plants, a Thai tea house and many, many birds.

2nd day on the island
Ischia has plenty of interesting places from both historical and nature-orientated points of view.
Thanks to its volcanic origins, the island is rich in thermal waters that bubble up from the ground and sea.
The Poseidon is a thermal spa complex by the sea, an oasis of peace in a setting of 60,000 square metres of ecologically intact gardens .
Due to its fortunate geographic position this place has the ideal climatic and environmental conditions for restoring both the body and the spirit.
The Aragonese Castle stands on a volcanic rock connected to the island by a bridge.
It was built in 1438 by Alfonso of Aragona and it rose to greatness under the d´Avalos family.
Later historical events caused it to pass to the French, the English and finally the Bourbons, who used it as a prison.
